RECENT CASES HIGHLIGHT WARNING SIGNS

It can happen to anyone, anywhere. Teen dating abuse was the cause of four deaths since the end of May. Each of these recent cases had warning signs that were missed or ignored. Know the early warning signs. Know the lethal warning signs. Do not take threats to yourself or your family lightly.

Two cases in Washington State top the list:

On May 29, police arrested 19-year-old Jarrod Lane in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Jessica Scholl. Jessica was found dead in her burning home on May 25, about a week after she had broken up with Lane. (Lethal warning sign #8).

On June 1, Brandon Suhr, ex-boyfriend of a 16-year-old girl, broke into her home, stabbed her 13-year-old brother to death, choked her and forced her to write a note that said she had killed her brother. Suhr then took the girl with him to his mother’s home where he was later arrested. The girl told police that the ex-boyfriend was probably upset over their recent break-up. (Lethal warning sign #8).

In Waldo, FL, May 30, 19-year-old Willard Newman was charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s father, Ronald Andrews. After a recent break up, Newman went to the girl’s house to retrieve a ring that he had given her during their relationship. Newman allegedly stole a gun from his mother’s fiance. (Lethal Warning Signs #6 and #8).

A 25-year-old Bronx, NY woman was charged with murder for running down her 17-year-old boyfriend, Frankie Hernandez, because he dropped and broke her iPhone. “She was screaming at him about her cell phone,” said Iris Hernandez [the vicitm’s mother]. “… He was saying it was an accident. She didn’t care. She was hysterical.” (Early Warning sign #10)
