Seniors Hear DASH message

DASH would like to thank the following schools and their senior classes for their support in March and April:

South County Secondary School for having Wendy Claunch share the DASH message to the senior class in March. It was DASH’s first time presenting at the school and we hope to return soon!

Mountain View Alternative School for inviting DASH to their annual Resource Fair. We met terrific groups of students who were touched by Siobhan’s story on her 3rd Angelversary.

Marshall High School for having Heather Sarmiento (Fairfax County Office for Women & Domestic and Sexual Violence Services) and Wendy Claunch highlight the dangers of teen dating abuse and The Red Flag Campaign, a dating abuse program on college campuses.

We are grateful to the principals, counselors and support staff of all the schools who have invited DASH in the past year.

Start Strong – new data and risk factors for 7th graders

From the Start Strong website: On March 29th in San Francisco at the Pre-conference Institute of the National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence (#NCHDV), Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships (Start Strong) announced new data on teen dating violence behaviors and associated risk factors among middle school students.

The findings come from the baseline data of an independent evaluation of Start Strong, conducted by RTI International. The data were collected from a student survey of more than 1,400 7th-graders looking at teen dating violence behaviors and risk factors linked to dating violence, such as gender stereotypes, sexual harassment and the acceptance of teen dating violence.
